Mawryngkhang Bamboo trek
The Mawrynkhang Bamboo Trek, located near Wahkhen village in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, India, is an exhilarating and unique trekking experience. The trek is famously known as the "Bamboo Trek" because much of the trail consists of man-made bamboo bridges and walkways suspended over cliffs, gorges, and the Wahrew River. The trek culminates at the top of a large, prominent rock called "U Mawryngkhang," also known as the "King of Rocks" due to a local legend.
Mawlynbna River Trek
Hidden deep in the southern reaches of Meghalaya, Mawlynbna is a sleepy little village that offers one of the most unique adventure experiences in the region — a river trek that takes you through ancient fossils, jungle trails, freshwater streams, and natural rock slides.
Unlike typical treks that go uphill or through forests, this one takes you along and inside a river, making it a perfect blend of trekking, wading, climbing, cliff jumping and swimming — all under the lush canopy of Meghalaya’s rich forests.
The river trek begins with a walk through the forest and eventually brings you into the riverbed itself, where you’ll be walking over ancient rock formations (some with visible prehistoric fossils) and shallow pools of crystal-clear water. Natural rock slides, deep swimming holes, and jungle cliffs make it feel like a natural waterpark carved by time.

Day trip to Nongstoin- Sacred groove forest, Weinia waterfall and Mawphanlur
If you're looking to escape the touristy buzz of Cherrapunji and discover Meghalaya's untouched beauty, a day trip to Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills is just what you need. This offbeat region is known for its tranquil landscapes, sacred groves, mirror-like lakes, and dramatic waterfalls — all wrapped in the raw charm of rural Meghalaya.
This day trip takes you through three contrasting yet beautifully connected experiences:
1. Sacred Forest
Your journey can begin with a visit to a lesser-known sacred forest near Nongstoin — a spiritual and ecological haven preserved by local communities for centuries. These forests are considered sacred by the Khasi people and are home to ancient trees, rare herbs, and vibrant biodiversity. Walking through them is a calming experience — the air feels cooler, quieter, and deeply alive.

2. Mawphanlur
Next, head to the surreal village of Mawphanlur, perched high in the West Khasi Hills. This peaceful hamlet is famous for its rolling green meadows, crystal-clear hilltop lakes, and absolute silence — broken only by the rustle of wind or the call of distant birds.
Here, time seems to stand still. You can go for a walk across the meadows, take a dip in the natural ponds, or simply sit back and watch clouds drift by. If you choose to stay overnight, Mawphanlur also has a few cosy wooden cottages, offering a truly immersive experience.
